ARLINGTON, Virginia (September 11, 2006) – Development InfoStructure (Devis), a leading provider of information technology for eGovernment, today launched a web site to publish the Department of Justice's new report, Lessons Learned from 9/11: DNA Identification in Mass Fatality Incidents. The report is the result of the Kinship and Data Analysis Panel (KADAP), which the Justice Department convened immediately after the terrorist attacks in 2001 to help the New York Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identify victims' remains. The KADAP was assembled by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), the research, development and evaluation arm of the Justice Department. Under contract to the NIJ, Devis took the site, http://massfatality.dna.gov, which began as more than 140 pages of content, from concept to reality in only 10 work days using the EZRO Web content management technology.
The number of victims from the World Trade Center attacks, the condition of their remains, and the duration of the recovery effort made the identification the most difficult ever undertaken by the forensic science community. The "Lessons Learned" offers guidance on the myriad issues the forensic community must face in a mass disaster to ensure that all victims can be accounted for, and identified. The special report site is housed within the Web site of the President's DNA Initiative. Devis and NIJ designed the www.dna.gov Web site and Department of Justice staff manages and provides the content. The site consists of the main DNA.gov Web site, several courses to teach law enforcement officials and officers of the court about how to handle and use DNA evidence, and now this new report on identifying victims of mass fatalities using DNA technology.
The EZRO technology developed by Devis allows complex Web sites, like DNA.gov, to be managed by non-technical computer users. EZRO allows subject matter experts to directly author and maintain portal, elearning, and on-line coach style Web sites. "It is very satisfying to have the opportunity to support the NIJ in this important effort," said Peter Gallagher, president of Devis. "The ability of today's technology to quickly make complex information like this report available in a readable, accessible format, on short notice is a great advantage for best practice eGovernment."
For more information about the report see the Justice Department announcement.
