Devis presented a prototype of a system which delivers Digital Talking Books in Daisy format over the telephone at the annual Daisy Consortium Conference in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This system developed using open source tools including Gnu Bayonne, allows people to call a number and listen to a digital talking book over the phone. They can use the phone pad to navigate through the book using standard Daisy navigation (2/8 for up/down levels in the hierarchy and 4/6 for backwards/forwards through items at the same level). The slides of this presentation are available here.
President Peter Gallagher said, "We are pleased to be working with the American Foundation for the Blind on this project and bringing the power of Open Source technology and our innovative approach towards usable accessibility to create this exciting tool to deliver content to all users in a fast, convenient way."
