The July 28, 2003 issue of Federal Computer Week reports on Open Source Software and the savings to the Government. Devis' work for the Interagency Working Group (IAWG) on US Government-Sponsored International Exchanges and Training was highlighted as a recent success of eGovernment software development. Laura Shane, a deputy director for the IAWG, notes in the article that Devis and the open source approach to the project is what made the group's primary project possible.
Peter Gallagher, president of Devis, says that as the federal enterprise architecture moves toward Web services, "a premium will be placed on sharing not just data, but the services and component objects that enable those services." An open model, he said, is the best way to share applications without forcing organizations to reconfigure their systems or purchase licenses.
