The first Open Source in Business Conference was held in San Francisco March 16-17. This "open source capitalism" event focused on the economic aspects driving the adoption of OSS and highlighted important legal/financial issues. Devis President Peter Gallagher participated on a panel discussing to what extent governmental entities, making up the largest IT market segment, should participate in supporting OSS projects: "Devis believes that OSS is a major part of the solution to improve the efficiency of eGovernment in general and governmental information sharing on OSS is the least that is needed to take advantage of the opportunity. It is inevitable that governments turn more to OSS that can be shared between agencies at all levels, Federal/state/local. And just as the US Government buys American so too can we expect foreign governments to favor import substitution schemes designed to favor their domestic software market."
