Demonstrating ongoing support for the appropriate use of open source in egovernment Devis was pleased to continue supporting the work of the George Washington University (GWU) Center of Open Source and Government (eGovOS.org). March 15-17 the GSA and the Center co-sponsored the "Open Source in Government" conference at GWU in Washington DC. Devis was a commercial sponsor of this exciting 3-day event and as a pro bono effort runs the Center web-site, supported conference registration, and the creation of an "Reference Book" to publicize OSS usage specifically for eGovernment.
Devis President Peter Gallagher said: "We have supported eGovOS.org's Open Source in Government series since they were initiated in 2002. Now in 2004, with GSA's valuable participation, the value message surrounding appropriate OSS usage is really getting out to public IT managers. The Center and GSA deserve a lot of credit for helping to level the playing field by providing up-to-date information from industry and government practitioners."
Other industry sponsors contributing to the conference included IBM, Oracle, HP, Red Hat, and Novell. Speakers from the UK, Canada, and Germany described how their governments were sharing information about OSS. Many senior Federal officials described their experiences applying OSS technology as did several representatives from state organizations.
