Devis Joins the Daisy Consortium

Daisy Consortium Logo

The Daisy Consortium manages and promotes the DAISY standard (ANSI/NISO Z39.86) for digital talking books. Digital talking books are an important technology for the blind and others with print disabilities. DAISY provides a powerful way to read any hierarchical material providing a simple navigation standard: up and down through the different levels and back and forth between items on the same level.

Devis President Peter Gallagher said, "DAISY technology is a crucial tool for ensuring accessibility to printed materials and Devis is proud to be a supporter of the Daisy Consortium and a commercial user of the technology."

Devis worked with the American Foundation for the Blind on a pro-bono effort to create a system where talking book content may be listened to over the telephone and navigated using DAISY and the touch tone phone keypad. Demonstrations are available by contacting Andy Affleck (aaffleck at devis dot com).
