Public-CIO/GovTech: OSS in the Core - February 2005

Public CIO and Government Technology magazines document that "the first Cabinet-level federal agency to release a software product under the general public license (GPL)" was the Department of Labor, in collaboration with Devis. An Open Question highlights the release of the web content management software, Workforce Connections, that was developed by Devis. "We are proud to have promoted and supported the release of the Workforce Connections software by transferring our copyright to the Department of Labor" said Devis President Peter Gallagher. Devis supports Workforce Connections commercially and maintains a derivative version called EZRO (EZ Reusable Objects). "Creating a commercial model with economic incentives for the private sector is the key to enabling the ecosystem necessary for a dynamic market for open source eGovernment tools. And the long-term savings to government, at all levels, will be immense" said Gallagher.
