Worker Transition Coach Debuts at National Rapid Response Summit - May 2006

Workforce Development Professionals Discover a Valuable Resource in DOL Web Tool

ARLINGTON, Virginia (May 25, 2006) – At today's National Rapid Response Summit, Development InfoStructure (Devis) debuted the Worker Transition Coach, www.WorkerTransition-Coach.org – a unique, Web-based tool designed to help workers and workforce development professionals respond to a company layoff. Devis designed and developed the tool for the U.S. Department of Labor's (DOL) Employment Training Administration.

Prior to and following a layoff, many state and local areas offer resources to assist companies. One such resource is called Rapid Response, a pro-active, business-focused strategy designed to help companies before they have to downsize by offering helpful resources. For example, Rapid Response programs can help companies retrain their workers, upgrade their technology to keep up with the marketplace, and stay competitive while retaining their workforce. In addition, Rapid Response services help communities by quickly coordinating services and providing immediate aid to companies and their layoff-affected workers when necessary.

Today's National Rapid Response Summit attracted hundreds of federal and state Rapid Response managers, workforce agency staff, community college representatives and others in the workforce development industry. Devis's workshop demonstration of the Worker Transition Coach drew an overflow crowd of these individuals who were excited by the valuable new tool.

The Worker Transition Coach helps laid-off workers and workforce development professionals navigate existing and sometimes complex government Web resources by guiding them to existing layoff-related online information. Acting as an interactive "user manual," it identifies common questions concerning workers and workforce development staff and provides step-by-step instructions for accessing Web sites that contain employability checkups, career assessments, labor market information, resume writing skills, job bank information, employment assistance and more.

"Workers who are in transition – looking for a new job – face a number of challenges," said Cheryllynn Hamm, Devis's OnLine Coaches Content Manager. "Topping the list is simply learning where to get information and help related to their job search. The Worker Transition Coach brings a whole world of assistance, tips and contacts that can move these individuals toward reemployment. This powerful, yet easy to use, Web tool can make a real difference in the lives of these individuals and their families."

In addition to the Worker Transition Coach, Devis has created several additional OnLine Coaches for federal government agencies. All are based on Devis EZ Reusable Object (EZRO) technology, an open source, standards-compliant Web application that modifies and restyles reusable content objects. The highly adaptable Coaches enhance and simplify the Web sites with which they are mated, helping organizations realize the full potential of their present-day Web environments.
